Analyst: $399 PS3 Next April

After wrongly predicting the PlayStation 3 would outsell the Xbox 360 in July, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is now predicting the almost unthinkable: the PlayStation 3 price will drop to $399 in April. This follows other analysts’ predictions that the PS3 better have a $499 price tag during the holiday season or else.
Pachter has also changed his tune on the Xbox 360:
We expect Xbox 360 hardware and software sales to increase over prior months due to the Xbox 360 price cuts.
Three things pop into my head when listening to the “experts”:
- Do analysts think every problem is solved by a price cut?
- Do they pick these predictions out of a hat?
- Do they pick these analysts out of a hat?
What do you think?

399 is still too much for me to buy it. And, honestly, they need to do it NOW if they want users to adopt the system.
Adopted users = adopted and serious developers.
I’ve not heard any publishers say “sorry, we didn’t take you seriously before” like they are to the Wii.
Love the Wii or not (man, that’s still funny) you cannot deny the direction it took was good for Nintendo and the direction Sony took has not proven good for Sony.
If I was an investor, I’d go with Wii (or maybe one of the component manufacturers)
