Well, the day has finally come where Double Fine is able to present their long awaited baby to the world: EPIC FIGHTER. For those of you not hip to Double Fine, they’re the fine folks who graced us with Psychonauts, run by a one “Tim Schafer” whom you might recognize as the maniacal genius behind Day of the Tentacle and other worthwhile adventure games. It seems the company has taken a step… sideways, shall we say, in order to present us with Epic Fighter, which is an 8-bit flash game putting you in the shoes of a Barbarian on his way from Rock and Roll Hell to Rock and Roll Heaven. Yeah, you heard me, and yeah, that is as badass as it sounds.
Schafer had this to say in the official press release, after the break:
“It feels great to finally be able to share it with the world. The team has put so much hard work into this title, and I think the wait was worth it. We’ve been able to put an extra layer of polish on the game, which is really important considering it has innovative features that are relatively new territory for us: A deep combat system, selectable characters, and dynamic dialog matrix that is completely different every time you play the game.”

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—September 6, 2007—Double Fine Productions, Inc., today announced its heavily-anticipated second game, the first to come from the studio since their critically-acclaimed 2005 release, “Psychonauts.” In this all new, action based IP, you play the part of a barbaric hero in an epic fantasy world, fighting his way from Rock and Roll Hell to Rock and Roll Heaven.
“We’ve been dying to talk about this game for so long,” says Double Fine President and CEO, Tim Schafer, “It feels great to finally be able to share it with the world.
In a surprise move, the developer is distributing its game entirely by digital download, from its own, highly popular website. And in an even more surprising move, they are distributing the new title for free. To play the game, eager fans need only to follow this link.

I think this game will probably be a major turning point in the history of games.
After playing Psychonauts I couldn’t wait to play the next game from Double Fine. Now that the long wait is over, I can honestly say, EPIC FIGHTER has changed my life.
God bless Tim Schafer and the brilliant minds at Double Fine. Without them I wouldn’t have a reason to live.

Tim Schafer will always be “Grim Fandango”, first and foremost.
