The Wii and the DS may have been selling like hotcakes, but Nintendo has decided to redesign their official site, Nintendo.com, and have closed the forums “indefinitely”.
Nintendo says that the future of the forums past that redesign is “uncertain” and that the existing posts will be taken down after a week of availability in read-only format.
Outraged response by Nintendo fans were posted at the Joystiq article, with such sentiments as
- “Nintendo hates online, in all it’s nefarious forms. The Wii was the hint, this is the proof.”
- “If Ninty is demolishing their forums just to cater to the casual gamers (as possibly evidenced in the statement, ‘Nintendo is working… to support the continued success of Nintendo DS and Wii.’), then I say, SCREW YOU NINTENDO.”
- “How many hints do you people need that Nintendo not only doesn’t give a shit about ‘gamers’ anymore, but they don’t even want to be associated with them?”
- “As a four year member of Nsider (well, it would be 4 years in November) I can honestly say the people who run the boards don’t know shit about what the actual members want. RPG board? Taken away. Chat threads? Taken away.”
What do you think? Is Nintendo getting rid of the forums for good? Is this a middle-finger at “gamers”, as another poster grates? Comment away.
(Thanks, Joystiq.)

It seems like a middle finger. I couldn’t imagine Sony or Microsoft closing their respective forums.
I was right! Nintendo hates gamers. I’ve been saying it since day one.

So now Nintendo officially has NO COMMUNITY. They were limited when they had a forum, but now? Nothing.

When God closes a door, he opens a window. A Joystiq commentator:
I went to that site, and the second I saw an article titled “The Faggiest Emoticon Ever”, it lost me. That and it claiming it killed Nsider, which was reminiscient of George Bush Sr claiming he was the reason the Berlin Wall fell.

Nut-job-fanboys that would post crap like that, will be back no matter what.

Wow, that’s a surprise. The Nintendo.com forums actually had a good community, and for them to just get shut down? Really strange considering how much cash is rolling their way right now.
I think they’ve truly lost the hardcore audience…

You don’t have to be hardcore to post in a forum.
Another commentator at Joystiq offered Mount Moon for Pokemon fans.

Casual Gamers don’t post on the Nintendo Forums. That’s why Nintendo shut them down.

The world isn’t divided into “Casual” and “Hardcore”. People who enjoy something will post in a bulletin board about it.

My mom enjoys games. She doesn’t hit forums. Explain that.

Esperamos opiniones. Fuente: Gamestooge. [...]

I joined the Nsiders forum less than 2 months ago and was posting on their Wii boards regularly until this closure.
Let me just say that it had become a cesspit of daily rants against Nintendo by Nsiders who were more interested in the shortcomings of the Wii in comparison to the Xbox360 or Ps3. It’s like the long-term fanboys all felt betrayed that Nintendo was seeing someone else (the casual gamer).
It’s too bad that hardcore gamers are characteristically over-represented on public forums. If you were new to the Nintendo forums like I was, you’d think Nintendo’s fanboys were their worst critics.

I feel disappointed when they close the forums, they said thier future is uncertain, maybe it’s correlated with the inappropreate behavior that people do. It’s annoying when people do spam attacks and say things like “Mario is a cool pokemon” and other pointless nonsence. Those people should learn to behave thierselves. Still, who knows what the future of the forums would’ve been? Life is a mystery…
