Sky News is rumoring that Sony will release yet another PlayStation 3 SKU:
According to an “electronic manufacturing news source” of theirs, Taiwanese manufacturer FoxConn will handle production of the unit, the same company that produces the PS2. Sky News goes on to speculate that the new console might lose “USB ports or backwards compatibility” to keep the model cheap.
Wasn’t it Phil Harrison who slammed Microsoft for issuing two versions of the Xbox 360 (with and without a hard drive) for being “too confusing to the consumer”?

Talk about not getting it right. Didn’t they have a 20GB version and outdated that one?
Seems it would have been easier spin it as “20GB gets a hard disk upgrade!” and push them all to 40GB and slide out the back-compat.
Instead, you cycle through four sku’s?

Dropping the Back Compat Chip and running it in software is one thing but dropping the USB-ports and losing the charging capabilities for the SIXAXIS and DualShock3 is another. And I wouldn’t wanna plug in another charger in the socket, that’s just inconvenient.
