Mysterious Wii UPC Listing Raises Eyebrows, New SKU?

A “distributor contact” recently revealed to Nintendo-centric website, Codename Revolution that a new version of the Wii may soon be hitting retail. The tipster sent off a new UPC for the console that is tentatively called the “New Pack,” and upon further investigation yields a slightly different name: “Wii Play N’ Learn.”

Codename Revolution posted the UPC number, and Joystiq ran it through the UPC Database and came to the conclusion the new name that seems to allude to some kind of educational hook. With the success of the Brain Age series and other brain-centric spin-offs, as well as a health fix already on the horizon, going in this direction seems inevitable for Nintendo.

Before the console launched there were already rumors of a DVD-playing Wii to be available post-launch, but judging by the name, this doesn’t seem to be it. The obvious money maker would be to include a new color into this deal, but Nintendo is so tight-lipped about its plans that no other details have emerged as of now.
