Microsoft Buys Facebook for $240M

Microsoft, unable to shell out the $800M for Bioware and Pandemic, has gone on and spent $240M on Facebook in a bidding war with Google.
Why? Who knows, unless they see it as the next MySpace, or perhaps somehow melding it to Xbox Live profiles. I’d have preferred to hear they bought Encore Software, which owns the software rights to Parker Brother games like Monopoly, Scrabble, the Hoyle card games, and Axis & Allies. Hearing they spent that much money on Facebook leaves me cold.

Just an FYI, this is a minority stake in the company…they did not “buy” Facebook. And don’t worry about them having enough cash. That’s a drop in the bucket for Mr. Softy, especially after last night’s earnings.
Additionally, I don’t think you can really compare aquisitions like Facebook (which, again is not an acquisition) and Encore. They do totally different things.

This is Microsoft Entertainment Division. It’s all the same thing, bottom line.
