In an exciting cross-marketing idea between Sony’s games and movies divisions, HighDefDigest is reporting that demos of two of 2008’s most highly anticipated titles, Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4, will be included on both the Blu-ray disc and DVD versions of Resident Evil 3 the movie. The disc is scheduled for release on January 2, 2008.
The move is part of Sony’s first Blu-ray movie release supporting the new Blu-ray Profile 1.1 standard offering enhanced features such as Picture-In-Picture. These demos are reportedly also included on the standard definition version of the film.
As much as I hope this news is true, I am somewhat suspect of it for a few reasons: 1) Resident Evil 5 is at least a year away from release. I can’t imagine the game is even ready for a demo, much less has one being worked on and nearing finalization for inclusion in the disc stamping that will happen next month. 2) With PSN demos stretching over 1GB in size lately, I have a hard time believing the standard definition release of Resident Evil 3 (the movie) will have space for the demos. 3) Why bother putting these demos on the DVD version when nearly everyone who has a PS3 will likely be buying the Blu-ray version? It seems like wasted space for millions of standard def purchasers who will likely never play it.
So, I’m wondering if the writer of this article accidentally wrote “demos” when he meant “trailers.” But with news this exciting and a release date just a month and a half away, I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough!

UPDATE: We just talked to some people over at Sony who have confirmed that there will NOT be demos included with the release of Resident Evil, but in fact “Sneak Peaks” of the two new games. Looks like the writers over at HighDefDigest really need to get a better grasp of game terminology ASAP. Sorry for the confusion. You can now cancel your order of Resident Evil.

He was mistaken. The disc contains ‘Sneak Peaks’, meaning trailers.
