PS3 Orange Box “Nearly Unplayable”?

Gabe Newell once called the PlayStation 3 “a waste of everybody’s time”. It seems The Orange Box may be a waste of every PS3 owner’s time, too. According to Joystiq, the EA (not Valve) developed version

has led to a number of framerate hiccups and other technical issues which “at best merely hinder game play and at worst make the experience downright unplayable.”

The question is – why was The Orange Box farmed out to a minor in-house EA development team instead of Valve? Conspiracy theorists may claim that Peter Moore had a hand in it – but more likely, Electronic Arts didn’t make any money with the console, and therefore a low priority with the publisher.

 (Thanks, Joystiq.)
