This Week’s Xbox Live Arcade Release: Asteroids

With all the new, original games like Undertow coming out, we were due for a good old-fashioned arcade release from Xbox Live Arcade, much to Jeff Minter’s disgust, probably. This week’s release on November 28 is Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe, which also features an option for updated HD graphics and a high-speed “throttle monkey” mode. It’ll cost the usual 400 Microsoft points ($5 USD) for a retro arcade title.
Asteroids was my favorite game when I was ten years old, much more than Space Invaders - and the game I also played for months on my Atari 2600. The Jaws-like theme is burned into my memory (”Dun-DUN-dun-DUN-dun-DUN-dun-DUN”) and the siren that accompanied the UFO. Anyone else have fond memories of Asteroids - or Blasteroids, for that matter?
