Street Fighter IV: First Details Emerge, More to Come in EGM

Yes, that is a legitimate screen of Street Fighter IV in action pictured above. As of now, it’s the only screenshot that’s been released publicly, and to answer the question we’ve had on our minds since the last teaser trailer, purists everywhere will be happy to hear that while the character models are in 3D, the core gameplay of SFIV remains on a 2D plane.

1Up just published a teaser for the impending issue of EGM and its cover story on Street Fighter IV. Other than the prior details we mentioned, Ziff’s keeping mum on what secrets the next issue of the magazine holds, but they did let slip the confirmed character roster (so far): Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, and Dhalsim.

    Wow. I guessed right - 3D but with a 2D animated look.

And SF4 HAD to remain on a 2D plane - Street Fighter is Street Fighter.

  2. Devin Grimes Says:

Yeah, I don’t think it would have went over all that well with the SF community if the series went to 3D. That said, I’m incredibly excited for this game — let’s just hope it’s not too far away from seeing retail.

  3. Jonah Falcon Says:

Going to free 3D would have smacked of Me Too-ism.

  4. MitchyD Says:

The EX games are 3D, and they weren’t terrible, this is about what I expected. It looks great for what it needs to be.

  5. Jonah Falcon Says:

The EX games were virtually ignored, which tells you why this is a 2D plane. LOL
