If you’ve been looking around for that 2.20 patch for the PlayStation 3 firmware, you’ll find it ready to install and go! This firmware brings your gaming “Blu-Ray” player to the 2.0 profile which gives it more feature then the costly Blu-Ray players on the market now for free.
DivX content can now exceed the 2GB mark and resume play on movies is now functional along with more non-gaming related stuff. Granted, the game console is being sold as a Movie Player, but the features are extensive and good for the future of the PlayStation 3. Considering gamers and high definition viewers are going to be looking towards the PS3 for their Blu-Ray experience to save a little cash, it’s a good move for Sony.
One of the great features of this generation of consoles, live firmware updates to keep the console more competitive, feature rich and bug free. This should keep the PS3 a viable console for the next ten years. Well, hopefully, because it may take that long to pay off all the debt for winning the Blu-Ray battle and ramping up the PS3 console!
