Why Do You PSP Hack? Sony Loves You.

In a desperate attempt for Sony to understand the minds and devotions to hackery, a survey has been put forth to make things clear. However, I think Sony might be missing the point; humans are curious people who want to break boundaries and expand their knowledge and abilities. We go out of our way to spend money to unlock the features of the universe, why do you think we spend so much money to go to the moon?

It seems so odd for Sony to be at a loss with this considering they put the energy into making Linux boot on a PlayStation 3…something that would have been done if they didn’t embrace it. Hackers and “Linux Junkies” will install Linux on a watch if you let them and I’m sure more than half won’t even use the OS once it’s installed; their mission has been complete.

When it comes to the iPhone, the reasons are simple and concrete: the iPhone is a desert of missing features and has been jailed from anything custom from happening. Consumers just want the phone to work like every other phone on the market and hacking allows them to do this with ease… and it makes you feel like you’re giving Apple the big ol’ finger, “Take that Steve Jobs! Ha!”

PSP hacking is a challenge and each release gives hackers a new challenge. What Sony fails to see is hacking the PSP is a game to some people, isn’t the PSP a gaming machine after all?
