Comic Con: Day Two

The second day of Comic Con was a beast. Saturday being a kid-and-employed adult friendly day to hold a convention, the place was packed to the rafters even at 10:30 AM.

The place was absolutely bedlam, and all of the popular exhibits from the previous day had long lines for them today. If that weren’t enough, you had superstars like Alex Ross signing stuff, and people in long lines to get Lou Ferrigno’s scrawl. Honestly, did Ferrigno do anything since The Hulk?

Anyway, a series of images from Day Two:

Fantasy Flight Games, of World of Warcraft: The Board Game, Starcraft: The Board Game, and other great (but expensive) board games gave me a sneak peak at the next big release: Mutant Chronicles. As always, expect a high price, high quality, and tons and tons of pieces. They only brought the one copy - it’s going to debut elsewhere.

Bean bag chairs were plentiful at Comic Con - and trust me, they were almost all used, especially since many people generally walk around for hours at the Con.

The Con was also a place where a lot of Naruto games debuted for Nintendo systems like the Wii…

And the Nintendo DS.

But today was all about Civilization Revolution, which I’ll be posting a preview of, since I got to fool around with it for the past two days, and have come away very impressed.

Of course, the biggest highlight was when Sid Meier showed up, along with his son, Ryan - with whom you can see clearly the family resemblance. I chatted with Sid for a good 25 minutes, and will be posting my own exclusive Q&A session here at GameStooge.

Sid, who’s quite unassuming, spent the next two hours being treated like a rock star by adoring fans, signing copies of Civilization IV and other Meier games. Really, Sid is a boardgamer at heart; he’d be more at home joining a gaming group and playing Advanced Civilization or something of that nature.

Then again, being a “rock star game developer” does have its priveledges with this adoring blogger (whose boyfriend told her to express his gratitude and awe for him.)

Did I tell you there was a lot of Naruto being played? It’s true.

Now, Day Two wasn’t all Sid Meier and Naruto. Aside from a preview of Civilization Revolution, I’ll be posting articles about The MMO That Wouldn’t Die, Eve Online, the exciting new Mythic EA MMO Warhammer Online, and a phenemenon I didn’t know existed: Gaia Online. Honestly, it’s huge, with an active subscriber base of 5 million — comprised of American high school girls (comprising 85% of that base.) Trust me - they’re enthusiastic about it. Scarily enthusiastic.

Anyway, tomorrow I interview the legendary Neal Adams, and will look for some more subjects. Til Day Three tomorrow…
