GameSpot is reporting that Take 2 has a gameplay fix for PlayStation 3 owners experiencing freeze issues, which reads like a small novella.
Please run through the following, go through in order.
1) Delete the game’s install data. This is done via the PS3 options. Scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the ‘Game’ tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the ‘Game Data Utility’ Enter this and locate the GTA IV option. Highlight this and press triangle once, from the menu select Delete. This will delete the game’s install information.
2) Delete the game’s save files. To delete any save files you will need to do the following. Scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the ‘Game’ tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the ‘Save Data Utility’ Enter this and locate the GTA IV option. Highlight this and press triangle once, and from the context menu select Delete.
Click “Read more…” for this long instruction list.
3) Disable your Internet connectivity for the PS3. To do this scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the ‘Settings’ tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the ‘Network Settings’. Now scroll down to the Internet connection option and press x, now select the disable option. Once this has been done unplug the ethernet cable if you are connecting to the Internet if using this.
4) Disable the console’s information board. To do this scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the ‘Network’ tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the ‘Information Board’, highlight this and press triangle. From the menu select ‘Do not display’ Press X to confirm this.
5) Disable Media Server functionality. Scroll to Settings, now scroll up / down to ‘Network Settings’ select Media Server connection. Once this has been done press triangle and change the option Disabled.
6) Delete all of the system’s Internet cache. To do this scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the ‘Network’ tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the ‘Internet Browser’, highlight this and press X. Once you browser opens press the triangle button once, from the new menu highlight the ‘Tools’ option and press X. Scroll down the menu until you reach ‘Delete Cookies’ and press X. Confirm the files deletion. Repeat this for ‘Delete Cache’.
7 ) Turn off the PS3 screen saver. Use the cross media bar to scroll to ‘Settings’, select ‘Display Settings’. Now highlight ‘Screensaver’ and set this to ‘Do not use’.
8 ) Once this has been done, manually restart you PS3 by holding down the power button for 5 seconds it will beep once and then shut down. Release the power button and re-press it and hold for about 5 seconds. The system will then boot and reset all display settings. You will be prompted to reset your display settings to how you require them.
9) Once restarted please try the game again, you will be prompted to reinstall.
Once the game has started please turn off the following features:
1) The game’s auto-save. Press Start, Game, and locate the Auto-save option. Turn this off.
2) Turn off the game’s flicker filter. Press Start, Display and locate the Flicker Filter option. Turn this off.
3) Turn off the controller vibration feature. Press Start, Controls and locate the vibration option. Turn this off.
If that doesn’t solve the problem, Take-Two allows tech support users to reopen their cases within seven days.
For those of you experiencing problems, did this solve them? Let us know.

Hi,
I have a 60gb abd i have had the same problem with GTA IV crashing, but i think i have found a quick way to resolve the problem without a full reload, but it could be a fluke.
I came to play it this morning and just kept hanging when trying to load my last saved game. I backed up my saves and deleted them off the ps3 and then added them one by one to see which would load first, but to no avail it kept failing……. I tried one last thing before going for a full reload. I deleted the profile under the games saves and then added my last save and it loaded. Unfortunately it could be a fluke, or it did work. but as a test, i added my backed up profile save and it hung on the loading screen like before, I then deleted it and its worked. Once it has loaded your latest save, turn off the auto-save and then save it immediately.
I have had no problems over the past 8 hours.
Regards
Daxing

Who cares if this fixes it! It’s so damn long and complicated and I don’t want to have to disable my network every time I want to play this game! Especially since Network play was said to be one of the best parts about the game! They need a Patch and it better be soon!

Game stopped loading for me, all I needed to do was sign out of PSN and it then started loading my saved game..Can’t believe the framerate is so poor for an alleged powerfull system like the PS3!!

If you have a 60GB, just turn off auto sign in (or sign out every time) when you play GTA 4. Could this be the first PS3 game virus?

I have the 60gb PS3. I have no problem with loading the savegames. But my game freezes during play. And it sems like it happends randomely after some time, mostly between 30min, to 4 hours.
Is this the same problem or am I the only one experiencing this.
Most people talks about Frezing during loading the savegames.

I tried take twos 12 step thing and i also tried just being disconnected from the network and mine still freezes, could it just be the disk for me?

I have th 80 gb…I was at about 18% and then the game would not load. Followed reset instructions and I am not having any issues. I rebooted Friday nite and played flawless all weekend. Hopefully it will continue running smooth. It is BS that you have to go through a long series of steps and it really sux b/c you cant play online. Hopefully a patch will come out and fix this problem. You spent 60 bucks on a super hyped game and it stops working the 4th day…Lawsuit ya heard of it???

I just disconnected from the PSN network and the game loaded no problem. This sucks however, as the real reason I bought this game was for the multiplayer capability. There needs to be a patch, and soon- or Rockstar won’t have my money!

this problem is also occurring to some people that have the 40 gb version of the PS3.
this is ridiculous, there better be a patch soon

I had the game freeze on me once so I guess i can’t complain too much,it happened just after the intro video and then loading the safehouse in hove beach(1st safehouse)(can’t remeber my last save point before that) but its been perfect ever since. I havent played multiplayer yet but I did hit the option in the cell ph but it said (contact game or network provider!?)I won’t log in until I hear about some fixes for EVERYTHING and all issues….Man its too bad, I thought “State Of Emergency”(game not made by take 2,just a let down) would be Rockstars last accident,(well its more on take 2 then rockstar)otherwise, the game is awesome i hope evryone gets to enjoy it!!!!
