PlayStation 3 May Take Second This April

Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Morgan, believes the PlayStation 3 is going to take the silver metal in terms of units sold for April 2008, above the Xbox 360. One doesn’t have to be a tenured analyst to predict a Wii victory again, but the PS3 is holding its own against Microsoft’s box.

Is the Blu-Ray catching on, is it the games or are gamers sick of the impeding doom of the failing 360 hardware revisions? Nobody wants to pay a hefty sum of money for an unstable console but it’s the console with all the hot games… or was.

GTA IV made record sales, as has been talked about for weeks, and is available on both consoles. As more top tiered titles make their way on the PlayStation 3 it might be worth your time and money to pickup the PS3 over the 360 if you’re not a fan of shipping dead consoles back to their creator.

The predicted outcome?

  • Wii: 600,000
  • PS3: 290,000
  • Xbox 360: 275,000
  • DS: 550,000
  • PSP: 235,000
  • PS2: 160,000

The Wii continues to blow away the competition with its low cost solution but the PS3’s starting to pickup steam against its direct competitor: The Xbox 360. Is this trend going to continue until Sony has market dominance against its rival Microsoft?

Not a believer in Sony? Notice they also sold 160,000 PlayStation 2 units which have a positive revenue stream unlike the costly current generation hardware. Where are the original Xbox statistics?

What’s an Xbox again?

The problem is how many people are buying the PS3 to actually play games?
