This coming Wednesday’s Xbox LIVE Arcade update brings about a few firsts for the service with the release of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One.
Breaking the bank as XBLA’s most expensive title yet at 1600 Microsoft Points (USD $20), the first installment of the collaboration between Hothead Games and Internet Webcomic juggernaut Penny Arcade certainly looks to please. Bringing the trademark humor to the table, the synopsis is as follows:
The first episode sends players to a deranged 1920s comic-book-meets-pulp-horror universe called New Arcadia. Armed with unconventional weaponry, players join forces with Gabe and Tycho of the Startling Developments Detective Agency to make war on bizarre enemies and solve the mysteries hidden deep in the sinister heart of New Arcadia.
Not exactly the kind of material you would normally see on the pages of the comic, but with a story written by PA’s own Jerry “Tycho” Holkins and artwork designed and imagined by Mike “Gabe” Krahulik it should be a safe bet that fans of the series will not be disappointed. Also: Fruit Fucker. Instant buy for me.
Sharing the title as one of the first real episodic attempts on a console, the game also joins the exclusive club of ESRB M-Rated titles on Xbox Live Arcade.
What do you guys think? Is $20 enough to command your love of Penny Arcade? This episode is said to be a 7-10 hour experience, and looks to be one of the most fully-featured releases on the service. Me? I’m totally sold.
