XBLA File Size Limit Gets Upgraded to 350 MB

In a recent interview with Xbox Live Arcade head honcho, David Edery, GamesIndustry.biz recently revealed that the previous XBLA size limit of 150 MB per game has now been more-than-doubled, escalating up to 350 MB.

Given the recent focus on bigger, better (and more b…no, we’re not going to say it) titles for the service, such as the episodic installments of Penny Arcade Adventures (the first of which drops today) and other releases on competing platforms, it should come as no surprise to gamers, but in the interest of staying as close to the source as possible, here’s the official word from Edery, himself:

Q: And you’re upping the size of Xbox Live Arcade games as well to 350 megabytes?

David Edery: Yeah, it’s a steady progress. We’ve been listening to our partners, listening to our customers to try and get a feel for what’s right. We don’t want the size limit to hit the roof because we think there’s some value in promoting small pick and play experiences that don’t cost USD 20 million, it’s good for the ecosystem.

So long as you’re a hard drive owning Xbox 360 owner, this should bring about nothing but good news, and hopefully more robust games for the downloadable service.  Now…how long until size limits are done away with completely?  Sony’s strategy seems to be working in that most titles, including the hefty Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, are essentially free to use as much space as needed.
