Got a Wii? Tired of simple mindless party games? Ready for something just a little more stimulating that simulating a sex act with a plastic controller to beat up your friends? If so, then here’s some good news Toki Tori has just been released on the WiiWare channel, yours for the low sum of $10. But what is Toki Tori? Well it’s an old GBC game released right when that system was being eclipsed by the GBA. Of course for this release the graphics have been spiffed up and they’ve added an extra level or two. Toki Tori is a story about a chicken and some eggs, specifically you are the chicken Toki Tori and you must save all your brothers and sisters who have been whisked away to be scary castle using nothing but your wits and some helpful items.
The game-play in Toki Tori is a mix of platforming and puzzle solving. Each level requires you to navigate through it, collecting all of your siblings while avoiding baddie which all sounds like fairly traditional platformer fare, except when you realize some of the eggs are out of your reach unless you use those previously mentioned items, they’re necessary to complete each level, some of those puzzles are going to require you using the items together. Getting through all 70 levels is going to take a little more than randomly jerking your Wiimote around (which you can do! The game has been re-worked to take “advantage” of the Wii’s unique control scheme, my money is on using the controller in the traditional sense).
Just a note like all puzzlers this one starts out ridiculously easy and then ramps the difficulty up, you’ve been warned!
