Call of Duty’s next War? In the Future!

Infinity Ward is trying to bask in the upcoming announcement, a la Xbox Marketplace, of the latest game in the Call of Duty series, World at War, this weekend. But, while most of the talk has been centered around the next installment of the award winning CoD series one of the developers let slip this, “we are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3.”
WHAT?! Attempts to have the statement clarified have been fruitless so far, and so the forums across the internet have lit up to fill the void with conjecture and rumor. With most people thinking it’ll be a on-earth affair with slightly futuristic weapons, etc… I prefer to think the fine chaps at Infinity Ward of tired of doing the same old thing, and have finally decided to start working on something new. I’m not saying CoD:WaW will be the last - that’s crazy talk - but that Infinity might be working on a new IP.
More interesting though is the fact that there seems to be a movement among AAA FPS developers away from the present as a setting and exploring the near future as a setting for their games (Tom Clancy games are going there too).
If I find out more you’ll be the first to know, Stooges!

Infinity Ward has nothing to do with Call of Duty: World at War, its developed by Treyarch
