At the beginning of this month the ugly sin of plagiarism raised its head over gaming. Majestic’s adventure title, Limbo of the Lost was accused of stealing art assets from Bethesda’s Oblivionand Eidos’ Thief. At the time, the American publisher of the game, Tri-Synergy didn’t have a comment as they were communicating with the developer; they did remove the game from store shelves. Majestic Studios has now released a statement to gaming news site Gamespot. The statement in part reads:
In response to the shocking notification that some alleged unauthorized copyrighted materials submitted by sources external to the development team have been found within the PC game Limbo of the Lost, we (the development team) have given our consent and full cooperation to both publishers who are recalling all units from all territories immediately.
Please be assured that we do not condone in anyway the use of unauthorized copyrighted materials and if we had been made aware earlier, we would of course have ceased development of the product and rectified the issue prior to the publication process.

Which all translates into “It’s not my fault! I didn’t do it!” The question now is who did, and how will things proceed?
They have a lot to worry about too; the list of material ripped-off is staggering. Material from sources as varied as the movie Beetlejuice to the PC game System Shock 2 has been found in the game. For a complete list you can check out the new wiki for the game here.
