Microsoft Releases DRM Tool

Video: Xbox 360 Content License Transfer Tool on Xbox.com

Nobody thinks about the content on their Xbox 360 hard drive until they have a system roast with red rings of death or other ill manner and you ask the question “how do I transfer my data.”

However, with Xbox 360 dying left and right in most homes the problem does become a critical issue right quick and Microsoft now has a tool to solve most of your woes. It has some draw backs, but it’s much better than having no solution at all.

The “nice and quick” method will get your licensed transferred, but they don’t really mention the time consuming effort of pulling down all your old games yet again. If you’re a heavy downloader, you’re “nice and quick” download is going to be dragging and slow. If, however, you only have a few things downloaded this shouldn’t be so bad.

They said movie licenses won’t transfer so watch them first before upgrading to your new console… unless your console is dead on the floor crying. Then your SOL.

  1. Anna Peterson Says:

For people with a dead console, you can always remove your dead console’s harddrive and add it to your new system. System failures shouldn’t affect the harddrive. I see this more as a solution for people upgrading to an 80G harddrive.
