Funcom has just announced that its MMORPG, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, has reached the milestone of 700,000 subscribers. That’s great for Funcom we here at Gamestooge are happy to see a developer get ahead. Funcom now announces that it has the 2nd largest MMO on the planet, unsaid is the giant ork in the room, World of Warcraft that has a subscriber base of around 10 million.
Though we congratulate the folks behind Conan we’re not going to give them the silver medal yet. The game has been out for only a month and when it comes to MMORPGs your initial sales matter little. The meat and potatoes of MMOs is subscribers. My question is, how long can you keep maintain and increase those numbers? The answer to that question will determine how successfully your game is, and not the initial hype and excitement. I’m not being harsh just realistic, and our review only makes me doubt Conan’s staying power.
Best of luck, Funcom!
