Today’s Virtual Console Titles: June 30

I do this every week it seems, and it’s getting old: Nintendo is only releasing one game on Virtual Console this week, only one. I’d tell you about how large their catalogue is and all the great games that are in it, but I’ve already done that. All I can do now is sigh and hope for the best - and that hope continues to shrivel. So what game has Nintendo deemed to “bless” us with this week? What scrap have they let fall to the floor?
Fatal Fury 2.
They don’t mention it anywhere in their press release but I’m hoping that this is really Fatal Fury Special (FF2 with tweaks and enhancements) which is superior to FF2, and adds additional characters to the roll, including the bosses. I’m guessing it’s not though. Fatal Fury was always a poor man’s Street Fighter, and if Nintendo wants more fighting games, Samurai Shodown 2 would be a better release, as the weapon system is unique to it, as is the large fighting arena; Xbox Live Arcade and Virtual Console owners will be enjoying it in the future at the very least.
Even better though let’s start seeing release for games people here in the States might actually want. Games like Earthbound, Star Fox, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3 (6), Castlevania 3, RC Pro Am, etc., etc.
If you owned a Neo*Geo at one time, and you just have to have another copy of this game, I guess it’s okay. I’m of the firm opinion though, that we should stop supporting Virtual Console until they put game on it we want.
