Atlus has announced that the next installment in their highly praised Persona series will be in the States before Christmas; December 9th, to be exact. Persona 4 will be released this month in Japan for those of you who can’t wait 5 more months to capture “digital devils”. Atlus has announced that the game will also comes with a soundtrack with featured “select” titles on it, which is kinda nice.
The interesting thing to me is that Atlus is still releasing these games on the Playstation 2! Playstation 3s have begun to sell more, as have Xbox 360s and Wiis, so why Atlus continues to publish titles on a last gen-console is a puzzle. I suspect it has to do with costs. Their programmers, artists, musicians, etc., are all familiar with the limits and capabilities of the PS2, they’re comfortable with it, so developing for is easier than learning the in and outs of a new console. They’re probably re-using old PS2 assets as well. Oh, and there is also the fact that the user base is orders larger than on any other platform, you have to believe though that this year is probably going to be the last for releases on Sony’s old warhorse.
(Thanks, Joystiq.)
