Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360

If you’d been following our live coverage, you’d have heard the console world-shattering news of Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox 360, to be released November 20, 2008.

What does this do to Sony, and you have to wonder if there is a limited exclusivity agreement with Metal Gear Solid 4; you may recall the same thing was done with all of the Grand Theft Auto III titles with Rockstar. Metal Gear Solid is not foreign to the Xbox; the second game appeared on it, and the chief reason III did not is because it occured at the time when the Xbox was halted in favor of the Xbox 360.

Regardless, four Square-Enix titles are coming to the Xbox 360, and you can thank the immense popularity of Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata for that. Had those three games not sold so well in North America, Square might have decided not to start devoting manpower to the 360, which is still floundering in Japan.

I have to say I called this over a year ago. Sony’s numbers for PS3 haven’t been what they’ve been in the past (when FF7 and FF10 came out on their platform). SquareEnix spends a lot of money making FF and they need a lot of return to get it. The bump in PS3 sales for MGS4 were decent but not outstanding and they’re largely gone now… SquareEnix just is willing to bet everything on people buying a 400 dollar accessory to play their latest game (the PS3). It just makes sense to release on both systems and make as much money as possible. Microsoft was smart to get serious about RPGs on the 360 and its paying off now

Don’t you mean $600? That’s what stymied the PS3 in the first place. Well, they got the Blu-Ray format established - which is what they really wanted. It was Blu-Ray first, PS3 second - maybe third.

I do and I meant isn’t. Thats great for them they won the digital format war and killed their gaming platform at the same time… What a phyrric victory when the medium is moving to digital storage and interent delivery anyway… and there isn’t anything new in hard drives they can capitalize on, solid state or traditional…

    Ohhh come on… MGS4 on 360?
It would just be like, cutscene walk a little bit…. insert disc two, cutscene walk a bit more… insert disc three, and so on until disk 10 or what ever, the 360 just doesn’t have the medium to get MGS across, even if it was just a Live download the vast majority of Xbox owners wouldn’t be able to fit it on their HDD’s
