Well other companies are finally catching on to what Capcom has known for sometime: revitalizing old franchises to cash in on your customers nostalgia for their youth is a great way to make money! Konami is joining in on the fun with a new title in the Gradius series scheduled for Nintendo’s WiiWare service. At the moment, all that has been announced are the game and its title, Gradius Rebirth.
Konami already has the original out on Nintendo’s Virtual Console, so it’s a safe bet that Rebirth isn’t that, though it could be a spruced up remake of the original, a la Pac-Man Championship Editionand Bionic Commando Rearmed, as long as its done well that’s sure to please the fans. A better idea, and one that Capcom is experimenting with, is making new games with old technology, a la Mega Man 9, this type of re-tooling makes perfect sense in a shooter where graphics should be taking a back seat to game-play, control and speed. A new pixely shmup action would be great right about now
You’ll know more when we do!
