Today’s Virtual Console Games: July 28, 2008

art-of-fighting-2 by you.In the wake of Nintendo’s poor E3 presentation, the company went out of its way to insure, actually reassure, fanboys that Nintendo still loved them and that there was plenty of serious gaming coming their way. You know a great way to do that Nintendo? I do. Release games on Virtual Console that your fan base actually want to see! And that is exactly what Nintendo did.

No, I’m lying; Nintendo put crap out this week on Virtual Console. No surprise there, so with out further ado the dross Nintendo is trying to hawk this week:

Art of Fighting 2 (NEO*GEO, 900 points): Oh good, the sequel to a terrible Street Fighter 2 clone, that no one played or wants to play now. Good choice Nintendo! Check out those graphics. Wow, this game came out 4 years after SF2 and it manages to look worse somehow. Pass.

Chase H.Q. (Turbografx, 600 points): At least I’d heard of the Art of Fighting, this game doesn’t ring any bells; it doesn’t even hit the church. Appears to be a rip-off of Outrun, but instead of ditching cops you’re running baddies off the road. Pass.

My boycott continues; actually I’ve just given up and moved on.

  1. Cyril @ Defunct Games Says:

You’ve never heard of Chase HQ??? It’s one of the most prolific game franchises of the 1980s, released on at least a dozen different platforms. And that’s not even mentioning the sequels. You should really give it a try before you label it a rip-off of outrun. That’s like saying that The Dark Knight is a rip-off of the 1978 Superman. If anything Chase HQ is the game that went on to influence Pursuit Force and Midway’s upcoming game The Wheelman.

  2. Jonathon Howard Says:

I can’t help it if I and everyone I talked to never heard of this game. Despite its port to half a dozen systems (that never did well in the United States… maybe that’s why?)

  3. Alex Says:

I am very tired of the Virtual Console games being weak. It would be nice if they were allowed to release the good RPGs and, well, any game that I really like.
