Microsoft Hungry for Exclusives

Hungry Hungry Microsoft Hippos. In an interview with EDGE Magazine, Microsoft interactive entertainment boss Don Mattrick admitted what everyone already knows: Microsoft wants exclusive titles and IPs, and they’re hungry for more.

“We’d love to have more exclusive hits on our box, absolutely. Are we investing in that? Yes we are. Does that take a lot of time? Yes it does.”

This is in start contrast to Sony, who wants to make more first party “exclusives”.

“…We know that is the trend. We, as a company, can invest in our first-party studios; in terms of exclusive titles, our role becomes more important,” [SCE Worldwide Studios head Shuhei] Yoshida recently told ThreeSpeech. “…My role is to run first-party development, and we are always exclusive.”

Er, um, well, duh – I didn’t think Sony would multiplatform God of War III. The problem with first party software is that third party outnumbers it about 20 to 1. I wonder if Sony and Nintendo (who feels it is in competition with third party software development) truly understand that…?
