As expected, Braid is this week’s Xbox Live Arcade title for August 6. It’s also at the intially reported price of 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 USD), despite Microsoft’s protestations to the contrary, which may mean Castle Crashers will be 1800 MSP ($22.50).
Regardless of price, Braid is an award-winning platformer that is best described as “Super Mario Bros. for grown-ups”, with emotional context and classic artistry, as if playing inside an oil painting.
$15 is not too much to pay for it, though - games like this are usually sold for $19.99 on shelves and from publishers like PopCap - and Penny Arcade Adventures‘ shining sales figures set a dangerous precedent. It’ll be interesting to see if Braid sells - it doesn’t have the licensed brand name that Penny Arcade does.

The second week of Summer of Arcade is hitting XBLA with Braid on Wednesday.
While the premise sounds familiar, your surroundings and the way you play are definitely not. Rescue a princess who has been abducted but do so through incredible painterly worlds and manipulate time to solve puzzles and get through levels.
Jonathan Blow brings you this new take on the platformer through Number None, Inc. and Microsoft games. It can be yours for 1200 Microsoft Points and is rated E 10+ for Everyone over the age of 10 by the ESRB.
