Valve is squelching the rumor that development for the PlayStation 3 by an in-house Electronic Arts development team of Left 4 Dead was currently in progress.
“There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production,” Lombardi succinctly said when contacted for clarification, dashing the hopes of zombie-hating PS3 owners everywhere. But then, that’s not necessarily to say Left 4 Dead won’t ever be made for Sony’s console. According to CVG, Lombardi has previously stated that if Left 4 Dead becomes a hit, we might see a third-party port the game to the PS3 eventually.
“If you mention a new Half-Life, people want to make as many versions of it as possible. If Left 4 Dead is big, then we may see a PS3 version later, or if and when we do a sequel, people may be more interested in that,” Lombardi said. “We’re only 150 people, so there’s only so many things we can do. But it’s one of those things with partners, wanting to take on that investment and risk. I think until L4D is proven, you’ll probably just see what we make in that franchise.”
Are you happy or sad that an in-house EA dev team won’t botch a port?
(Thanks, 1Up.)
