Nintendo Fanboy? Too Bad.

Have you seen me?For long time lovers of Nintendo it must be frustrating owning a Wii right now. Sure you have your Mario Galaxy and your Phantom Princess but when will you see another game like that? When will you get a new Metroid, Donkey Kong, Starfox, or F-Zero? How long must you be content with the gimmicks like Wii Fit and Sports? How long must you wait for a real game?

Nintendo has answered that question: two to three years. Yes, years.

In an interview with Edge magazine, Nintendo said:

“We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years… These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams.”

Feeling abandoned yet? Good thing for Nintendo that their fanboys stick around (the N64 and Gamecube years weren’t great either). When the Wii fad is over and grandmothers are no longer playing with it, they’ll be the only people Nintendo can fall back on.

(Thanks, Joystiq.)

So where’s the two to three years in the quote?

Unless you saw them mention that games take 2-3 years TOTAL development time and thought to add your own spin to it by acting like they start developing the games today.

They do state “not early 2009″ and, if you bother calculating” “late 2009″ is only one year away.

“These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams.”

If it’s not ready in 2009, then they mean 2010 - and that’s 2 years away. If he says 2-3 years away and the first year it’s av. is 2010, then obviously he means 2010-2011.

  3. Al3xand3r Says:

So if it’s not “early 2009″ we’re gonna skip 6 to 9 months and go to 2010 because after early 2009 there’s only 2010, nothing else.

He never says 2-3 years away, he says games like that take 2-3 years to make. He never says the start developing them TODAY for you to think they’re 2-3 years AWAY.

    Sorry, wrong on all accounts.

Wait.. N64 wasn’t good years? Now I know this site is run by nothing but Xbox fanboys and Sony fanboys.
