Sony’s Price “Scheme” for PS3 Headset

Sony has announced that their Bluetooth headset will be coming to the United States bundle with the SOCOM: Confrontation. When bought with the game the headset will only cost you $10 (the game will cost you $50), but bought independently of the game the peripheral will cost you as much as a single PS3 game: $50.

$50?! This looks like a scheme to me if I ever saw one; I can just see the headlines now of how great the SOCOM game is selling, with no mention that it comes with the headset. One wonders whether which is worth $50 in the bundle, the game or the earpiece.

Speaking of PS3 peripherals and add-ons, the PS3 keypad that hooks up to your SIXAXIS controller also will set you back $50. Any old USB keyboard is $20, with all the added functionality of an actual keyboard.

Sony isn’t the only one ripping their customers of with exclusive peripherals. I’m still upset having to fork over $100 for Microsoft’s crappy wireless adaptor.

(Thanks, 1Up and Joystiq.)
