Games Industry Biz is reporting that Lazard Capital Markets senior VP, Colin Sebastian is stating Spore, Will Wright’s über-god game, will sell an astounding two million units in September. While two million is not unknown for a AAA console title, such a figure is relegated to the very very few elite PC titles - even games like Half-Life 2 and Civilization IV have not mounted such a income. The only recent PC game that could compare is the launch of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade.
Not to be outdone, Warhammer Online is projected a fat 850,000 units in September, no small feat. Whether it’ll keep those customers to maintain a large subscriber base with World of Warcraft hovering around remains to be seen, but it’s ironic to note that Warcraft started out as an attempt to be a Warhammer RTS, only becoming “Warcraft” due to the inability to secure the Games Workshop license.
