Xbox 360 Sales Double After Price Drop

The recent price drop of the Xbox 360, with the Arcade bundle hitting $199.99, is bearing fruit, as sales of the 360 have doubled, according to Bloomberg News.

“I think the sub-$200 Xbox 360 arcade is extremely good for holiday. Historically, whenever you get a system under $200 it appeals to a much wider demographic,” GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo commented to GameDaily BIZ in a recent interview.

Anecdotally, I can tell you that the GameStops here in New York told me that the $199 Arcade machines were flying off the shelf; the new $299.99 60GB Pro? Not so much.

  1. Derrick Schommer Says:

This shows that gamers are taking action with their wallet. Gamers don’t want to spend a huge chunk of cash for their consoles, they’re already paying out the bum for the games.

With a spike that high, imagine where Xbox 360 would be today had they had this cost structure in 2006 or 2005. They might actually be destroying the PS3 and competing with the Wii.
