Xbox Live Still Down [UPDATE 6]

Even though it was only supposed to be 24 hours, it isn’t unusual for things to run long. We’ll let you know when service is up again. Major Nelson twittered, “e says about LIVE ‘We’re on schedule’.”

As I mentioned earlier in the week, tomorrow (Monday, 9/29/2008) from 12:01 AM PST for up to 24 hours, Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance. As a result, Xbox LIVE and the ‘My Xbox’ section of Xbox.com will be unavailable, and the Xbox forums will be in read only mode (you won’t be able to post.) The remainder of Xbox.com will be available with limited interruptions. When the service returns, you will not have any new features and you will not have the new Xbox experience update. That will happen later this Fall. I will update my Twitter when the service returns.

very true, Ive been trying to connect to XBL for the last half hour hoping that maybe they would’ve started it back up a little bit early but NO theyre STILL going after 24 hours…sad I had the day off and wanted to play Castle Crashers online considering I bought it yesterday but xbl is still down…please bring it back up soon! like in the next 10 minutes! lol its 2:14am central time here now

yeah ive been getting MTU error everytime I test connection which has been about 4 times the last 24 hours or so. Sucks because obviously my internet works so its just them taking their sweet time doing stuff that isn’t even going to change anything for us when we finally are able to get back online..and to mister Im up at this hour but making fun of you guys for wanting to game at this hour too…this is when im awake. Im a night person so this is basically my daytime when I play games

Yay an update! but sadness/*cry* not an update saying theyre back online…another 1 1/2 hours to find out when the next update will be..itd be really sweet if magically they were just done and we could all play online games again. Normally I dont even care much for xbox live but I am totally addicted to Castle Crashers now, even though that game is bugged beyond repair and it takes me a half an hour to join a game that doesn’t kick me due to network glitches. Im probably going to fall asleep before everything is all set and done >_<

I just got off the phone with an xboxlive operator, he tried helping me with resetting my router to no avail. He said “xboxlive is up and running, but not at 100%” I am fiending for some “live” WASUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well it seems now that xbox.com is off aswell. but im a bit confused over the time it went off as i live in the uk and i asume that xbox live is home 2 usa so that means its not going 2 b on in the uk untill around 09:00 in the uk as its 5 in the morning here looks like that is the case.. i wish they wud give a bit more info like how long is left of the down time stuff like that

I just don’t see how a service as large, demanded, and critical to a product (XBox is virtually useless to many without Live), must go down entirely for any “planned” maintenance. Furthermore, if it’s unavoidable, why should it take more than an hour (if it goes according to plan) when DNS propogation is generally the slow point in any Internet service migration and TTL is nearly always 1 hour.
