News is a little slow today so we’re bringing you the latest rumors. Former 1Up editorial director, John Davison, has stated that “Nintendo is currently showing early presentations of its next home console hardware.” When asked to source his statement, Mr. Davison simply said, “Multiple sources in the game development and publishing community.”
What is this new system supposed to be? The Wii HD, which will have hi-definition compatibility, as well as having a larger focus on downloadable content and backward compatibility. What does that mean? How do you have a greater emphasis on backward compatibility? Will you be able to plug in NES, SNES, N64 carts? Can I play Gamecube and Wii games in it? No one knows, because this is a rumor! The console is supposed to continue using the Wii’s motion controls.

I’ll believe this *if* we see sales decrease on the current one. Considering it’s still hard to find a Wii two years later, I’m not thinking Nintendo wants to kill off that momentum with product confusion.
But, if sales finally taper off, maybe. 2011 seems a little soon for that, but this is the tech industry… you never know.

Problem is, Derrick, Nintendo isn’t getting the licensing from third party publishers.

If you look at their sales though, they don’t really need that 3rd party support. The consoles sells on the strength of its 1st party work!
