VGChartz is reporting in an interview with Doug Lombardi of Valve Software that Left 4 Dead is outpacing The Orange Box in terms of preorders.
Pre-orders for L4D are currently exceeding Orange Box pre-orders by well over 40%, this driven largely by the 10% off promotion being offered now for both versions.
Lombardi also confirmed there will be downloadable content, though what that content will be or how much it’ll cost, he’s being coy about.
[VGC] Do you have any plans for new content for Left 4 Dead in the future via either expansions or DLC?
[DL] Yes.
[VGC] Will 360 owners see DLC support as well? Will it cost anything?
[DL] Yes. TBD.
I think Left 4 Dead is going to outsell The Orange Box because zombies are much better than aliens, even aliens that turn you into zombies.
