Spore (Mac) Patch Broken?

If you are have Spore and a Mac, you might want to not install the patch the game is offering right away. If you do, you may be spending about 2-3 hours fixing the mess. It turns out EA decided to skip out on testing to see how their Mac version patch would work and just released it.

If you’re curious to know what happens, let me paint this picture: After accepting to download and install the patch, you’ll take about an hour downloading the file, in-game. After it downloads the patch, it freezes the Mac. (Yup, those “unfreezable” Apple products.) When you restart your computer and try to run Spore again, everything will appear to work fine, until you get in-game, where you discover that your character isn’t there! The patch not only broke your Mac – it broke your copy of Spore. There is no way to un-install this patch either; you you’re going to have to un-install the game and then re-install it, which will take you another hour or so!

Exciting, no? So do yourself a favor and don’t download the patch, until the issues are cleared.

  1. David Griggs Says:

I had a similar problem, however to stop it from happening don’t do anything in the backgorund when it is installing, just let it do what it wants. However don’t install patch 3 on mac as it breaks spore so your mac doesn’t think it is a app and just says it can open
