Guitar Hero: World Tour – Faulty Drums? [UPDATE]

Kotaku is reporting that there are a number of complaints about the Guitar Hero: World Tour drums coming from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners.
One PS3 gamer on IGN’s boards says:
I went and started the drum trainer just to get a feel for the drums. I noticed right off the bat that the red pad only registered that I was hitting it softly even when I hit it hard. So when I got to the trainer about hitting certain accent notes harder I failed out every time, even if I hit the pad with all my might.
And a 360 player:
“Just picked up the full band version for 360, at first there was a problem with the pads registering, and the red pad just completely died a minute ago… Out of the box less than 3 hours…”
Red Octane has been busy with customer support. Have you been experiencing any problems with your GH:WT drum kit?
[UPDATE: Activision has acknowledged there are some faulty drums.
"We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues. We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages."
You can get some more immediate help by calling customer support at 310-255-2050.]

Exact same thing

Mine was registering but WAAAYYY to sensitive. I hit green and red and blue would go off. In fact blue was so sensitive that, no exaggeration, I blew air on it and it registered a hit, WTF? The cymbals seemed fine on my kit, but the pads were nightmarishly sensitive. Returned it for my money back. I guess I’ll have to wait for this to get sorted. A shame really, because the guitar was fine, and the game itself is fantastic, I found the singleplayer game far superior to Rockband 2’s singleplayer game. A shame the drums suck.

That’s odd.

I had the SAME problem. The night it was released I got out the drums, started rocking out and the red pad started being unresponsive. Now, it doesn’t respond at all. Neversoft is sending me a kit to hook it up to my computer to adjust it’s sensitivity, but that’s bull! I KNOW it’s not a sensitivity issue because it happened gradually, not instantly! Then they wanted me to send it back OUT OF MY OWN POCKET and I was extremely peesed off. Ugh…back to Rockband. Never again, Neversoft! NEVERROCK!

same problem for me I purchased the system band kit for my wii and about the 3rd day the red drum went out, I bought from K Mart and just returned it

had the same problem with the red pad, tried the sensitivity kit that neversoft sent, but nothing worked, turned out one of the wires had come loose, so i just soldered it back together and havnt had a problem since

Seems to be everywhere you look, someone has had and issue with gh world tours hardware. I’ve also had no luck with my kit either. First off i bought one for my PS3 but the drum kit lagged terribly so I took it back and exchanged it for a xbox 360 version, and fail again! this time not so much lag issues but the drum kits cymbals where pretty unreliable then after a few hours the strum bar on my guitar went south and to top it off the microphone didn’t work at all. Three stikes, Piss poor effort Activision for $320. Bloody joke!

My drumkits red pad died after 6 hours of play. I just returned my package to the store I bought it from and got a new one. Now the 6 hours has gone and kit is fine. but I fear the moment the red drum is gona die again

Here is how you fix your red drum if you find it’s not working correctly or you are having to hit it hard than normal.
I have placed photos on the site to show it’s really easy to fix.

Got the game yesterday. Right away I noticed that the blue drum wasn’t working. The red and green seemed fine, but the yellow cymbal had bad sensitivity. I got the blue drum to trigger by pressing down on it with my palm, but a drumstick? Apparently not.

The physical problem is in the fact the drum pads aren’t registering your strikes. You’re going to have to get them exchanged.

does anybody know if u can return it to get a new one?

I’ve had GHWT for about a week now and last night my red drum became insanely unresponsive. I stopped playing for the night hoping that it would work today, but it has only gotten worse. It barely registers any of my hits now. I’m going to try to solder it later on (I’d do it now but, like any other girl, I am very bad with electronics and wiring and all that so I’ll need my brother’s help) and see if it works. Hopefully the whole thing won’t break. I can’t believe so many people have had problems like this with GHWT, though…

I just got the game out of the box. Im so angry! After halfway through a song all my pads stop responding! Also, the drum usb dongle starts blinking like it lost the signal. When I reconnect the d-pad and buttons work but not the pads anymore. Can anyone help or do I have to send the drums back

Got GHWT the day it came out for the PS3! Four days later the red pad quit working! I then had to go through this rediculous process for a warranty claim! In December I finally got a drum set, but guess what, it was for a Wii! I have yet to get this resolved! They need to fix how they handle business or there will be a lot more Rock Band players!

mine is different…
i strike on my red, blue and green pads and they work fine. my orange cymbal works fine too, but when i strike on the yellow cymbal it sometimes also strikes the red pad aswell. so i strike the yellow cymbal once and get a yellow cymbal and red pad out of the one strike. can anyone help me with me problem. e-mail me at alecioaman@hotmail.com. thankyou

I got GHWT in december of last year and for about 3-4 days it worked fine. But ever scince the orange symbol is totally irresponsive.I tried unplugging and repluging it about a hundred times and still nothing. If i whack it as hard as i can nothing will even respond. the rest of the kit with the guitar and mic are fine. But it has been so long that i dont know if i can return it for a new one or if i will have spend another 100 bucks so i can fix what i did not even brake

That long a time, it’s basically worn out. You need to replace it.

we have a pretty new xbox360 Band Hero drum set and the cymbals just stopped working halfway through each song… stop registering completely.
we used to have the wii world tour drum kit, and every drum pad broke within a fairly short period of time, sent it off for replacement.
so fed up with faulty drums!
