So what does Nintendo have for us this week on WiiWare and Virtual Console? Let’s see <key mashing> Oh, looks like Strongbad, a Hexic rip-off, and Earthworm Jim. How does this week’s releases rate… a 3 out of 5. Not bad but not good either. Let’s get our hands dirty now and dig in to the releases!
Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands continues the wacky adventures of Strong Bad, one of Homestarrunner.com’s most popular characters. In this episode guide Strong Bad through his attempts to win a battle of the bands and win some much needed cash. Telltale Games is on a mission to bring the adventure game back, and with the likes of Strong Bad, and Sam & Max they’re well on their way. Get it!
Art Style: ROTOHEX - Art Style appears to be Nintendo’s Popcap rip off machine, their own little PopCap for releasing casual game titles. ROTOHEX is a game in the vein of Tetris, Hexic, etc. Triangles fall from the top of the screen and you have to move, rotate, and arrange them into hexagons, once the hex is formed it disappears and you wash, rinse, and repeat.
Lastly, Earthworm Jim. Why is Nintendo releasing the Sega Genesis version of this game on Virtual Console? There’s a better version they could have used, I don’t know, the SNES one perhaps? Earthworm Jim is a unique platform shooter, most known for its fantastic and unusual visuals. If you can get back the bizarreness you’ll find a solid platformer underneath. Get it!
WiiWare:
- Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands (Telltale Games, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Art Style: ROTOHEX™ (Nintendo, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)
Virtual Console:
- Earthworm Jim (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
That’s 2 of 3 for this week - not bad.
