GameStop Refusing Guitar Hero: World Tour Guitar Returns

First, it was the drums. Now, the guitars?
Apparently, there’s been enough problems with the guitar controller for Guitar Hero: World Tour that GameStop is no longer accepting returns. Dan Clarke’s local manager told him that GameStop had a national conference call yesterday that ordered all managers not to take returns any more and instead to direct gamers to amazon.com/support. When he went to GameStop, he saw a half dozen GHWT opened boxes behind the counter. He tried contacting Red Octane both as an average consumer and as a press member asking to see what can be done, and hasn’t even received an email in the past 24 hours.
Activision and Red Octane did add to their FAQs stuff like “make sure you have fresh batteries” – the batteries included with their game weren’t fresh?
Have you been having any problems with your GH:WT guitar?

I went to GameStop today to try to return my GH:WT (drums. They sent me to Activision’s customer support. “we’re not allowed to take them back”, I was told. I thought that she was just being a pain, now I know the truth. I said I’d even take store credit.
My I talked to my friend last night who had to get his replaced three times at Best Buy, finally they just gave him back his money.
I can’t believe that GameStop won’t take them back. I’ve always bought my games there. NEVER again!

I have been having a battle with Game Stop for 36 hours now. I paid with a CC and I am taking my last measure today to stop payment on a broken item that the store refuses to take back.
On November the 2nd I bought GHWT from my local GameStop store. I paid 189.00 for the privilege to get bent over. No where in their store, on their receipt nor by information from the cashier at checkout did they tell me I was buying a bomb that could go off. I got my GHWT bundle home, opened the package, set up the drums and to my surprise the drums do not work. This is not even an issue with the “sensitivity” this is a broken product.
I called the Store Manager. I called the corporate headquarters. I spoke to jonny generic and his supervisor who upon informing her that I was recording the conversation (I live in Georgia so consent to record is not needed)she just spouted off the Activision toll free number.
Barbara at my local store is trying to get some resolution, but I fear after 36 hours it will come to nothing.
Today I visit my CC company to cancel payment. I also have an appointment with the Better Business Beaurau to file a complaint. After spending over $3000.00 in thier stores the last 2 years I am done with Game Stop.

Hey, in California there is a law against not allowing a customer to return a defective product within 30 days, it’s called (California Civil Code section 1723)
it reads -”If a store violates this law (California Civil Code section 1723), the purchaser can return an item for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.”
Moreover, u can contact your local DA if they are doing this, i’m gonna call gamestop and let them know.

If you guys want, we should try to put together a class action lawsuit against gamestop. my e-mail is suegamestop@yahoo.com

GHWT!!! I really find it hard to believe that I paid almost 200 bucks for a game that lasted a week before breaking. My drums stopped working,(and it’s not sensitivity), I barley even played that dang thing. Now I sent them back, and had to paid 25 dollars for shipping and they say it will take 3-4 weeks? I tried to take it back to game stop, but they told me that I had to ship it back, I pointed out that there receipt, says I have 30 days to return the product and they told me, they could not help me.I for one will never purchase anything from them again, that is the only way to show a company that you cannot rewrite your polices to suit your pocket book. I really liked the game, but I will not give them another dime, unless they make things right. Red Octane, Activision, Game-Stop Beware this economy will not support faulty products and poor customer service, I could have spent my money elsewhere and will in the future! Thanks bu no thanks!

Gamestop cannot take refunds. It’s due to an agreement with the manufacture. Big box retailers like Walmart, BestBuy, etc.. aren’t supposed to take returns or refunds either, but sometimes they break the rules. Why do you think you get that paper in the box when you buy it that tells you not to take it to where you bought it, but return it to the manufacture. Get over it guys, if you can’t wait a couple of weeks for a return, then you need to get a life.

Interesting you should say that “nSm Network”, as I bought the guitar/game combo, and nowhere in the pack does it say that you can’t return the product to the store. There’s no paper in the box telling me I can’t. I got this combo yesterday, and all was working fine. This morning, the guitar’s strumming without me doing anything, or strumming while I’m holding a note. And now I can’t get my cash back on this defective device? Or just trade it in for the game? Interesting.

I am in the same boat. My left cymbal stopped working after about an hour of play. I never saw the slip of paper that Gamestop thinks releases them from all liability for selling a defective product. At this point I am so annoyed that i just want my money back, and they have refused. I called my state’s Attorney General’s office and they and are sending me a packet to formally complain. This is really frustrating! I am done with Gamestop forever.

After I fixed the sensitivity issues on my drums, my guitar down-strum stopped working. I just returned to Best Buy for replacement. It is correct that the original boxes did not have the paper that says not to return to retail stores, because they didn’t know everything would break within 30 days. My first was an original box sold on opening night. My new box had this paper in it. If RedOctane had a better system, people wouldn’t complain. Shipping should be paid and replacements should be sent in advance, since it is obviously faulty equipment.

Well, I can’t say that I bought my GHWT from GameStop, but I’ve had some of the same problems. I bought mine from Wal-Mart. It was the PS3 pack with two guitars (Les Paul Gibson and the new Neck-slider guitar) and the game. After the first day, my friend and I noticed that the yellow button on the neck-slider feature didn’t work. (Come on, when you’re 14-years-old and one good reason you got a kick ass game was because of the new feature, that and because of “Crazy Train” by Ozzy) you want the fullest you can get out of the game. Well, I asked my friend at school who works there a few days later (she’s such a babe, it’s a good thing that my guitar was defective so I can talk to her about a video game without her thinking I’m a nerd and never talking to me again) she said I could return the game. Luckily, this was in October (Yippee) I returned it and got a new one. My game works just fine now (whew!). What sucks though is that I downloaded some new songs from the market place (Hmmm… about $12 worth, and again, I’m 14 and don’t have a job) and I’ve waited for thirty freakin’ minutes and still my Jimi Hendrix pack, The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” “Jessie’s Girl” by ?, “1979″ by Smashing Pumpkins and those free Neversoft tracks. (I also downloaded the free Zakk Wylde and Ted Nugent guitar battles… but they worked. Sweetness). None of them have come on to my setlist. I exited store amnd it told me to select “Update Setlist” to upload the downloads (He he). I hooked my internet back up to my computer because I wanted to look up how to get the drums and found this.
If anyone knows what my problem with the downloads is and can tell me the solution. It’d be much appreciated. Also I looked up release dates for the game’s downloads and it says there are Nirvana songs on there, along with Nickelback, and some other stuff that’s supposed to have been released but I couldn’t find them. It also kept saying that there were some tracks from The Eagles. It didn’t show them either. Dammit! I love Nirvana, Nickelback, and The Eagles! I want their songs so badly it’s not even funny, (well, maybe it is to you). If anyone can help me figure this problem out, I’ll… I’ll… I don’t know. Umm….. it’d still be much appreciated. Thank you.
