The Lost Boss of Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead 411 discovered some interesting files in Left 4 Dead’s .vpk files, including concept arts of every boss infected in the game, including some never seen before which are pictured below. The first was the familiar Witch.

But the second is a mysterious boss called the ‘Screamer’.

Omega_K2 found three cvars that could be related to the Screamer:

z_deafen_radius_one : 100 : , “sv”, “cheat” :
z_deafen_radius_three : 200 : , “sv”, “cheat” :
z_deafen_radius_two : 150 : , “sv”, “cheat” :

Seems to me that the Screamer deafened Survivors – a serious thing since audio cues are paramount to the serious Survivor. He might have stunned Survivors close to him.

(Thanks, Left 4 Dead 411.)

It is a special infected that gamemakers cut from the game coz it would be too difficult for human players coz screamer wouldnt stand out from the zombie hordes.. Its specialty was to run and hide and then scream and alert the zombies like boomer pile does. When they were desinging the game boomer only had 1 attack, explosion when shooted so they cut the screamer and added the boomer pile =)

The screamer was actually used to stun the survivors for a small second, and to get the attention of other infected. He was replaced with the boomer. I’m guessing after trying to organize online mode, that they wanted a different method.
