Wrath Sells 2.8M Copies First Day

This isn’t exactly surprising, but WOW Insider is reporting that Blizzard moved 2.8M copies of the World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King on the first day.

It isn’t surprising because if you’re a World of Warcraft subscriber, you want to pick up the expansion to access the 80th level limit, the new regions, especially the added areas of Stormwind and other existing areas, not to mention the new Death Knight class.

In fact, the sales of Wrath of the Lich King in the first two weeks should indicate the “real” population of the MMO – people who don’t buy this expansion aren’t really playing.

UPDATE: According to 1Up.com, it’s a record PC release.
