Dungeon Keeper was a series of real-time strategy games by one time developer Bullfrog, in which you had to construct a dungeon in which to entrap adventurers. Turning the gaming convention of dungeon raiding on its head. We haven’t seen hide or hair of the franchise since 1999 with the sequel. Electronic Arts who owns the property rights to the franchise though has just announced that their reviving it! As an MMO! In China only! Sorry Dungeon fans!
Electronic Arts announced that they’ve reached a deal with NetDragon Websoft Inc. who will take the IP and make it into a MMO for the greater China region (which includes Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). Titled Dungeon Keeper Online. The game is being described as well, just a generic 3d MMO RPG. The developer though has big plans and hopes for a release outside of Asia, “Capitalizing our strength to create a strong gaming experience, powerful operating platform and unmatched expertise within China’s online game market, we are confident that Dungeon Keeper Online will not only become successful in the Greater China region but also achieve remarkable results overseas.”
So maybe if we’re lucky and not playing WoW, in the next few years we might be able to play this new Dungeon Keeper.
(Thanks, 1Up.)
