[UPDATE: Joystiq just got the confirmation in their mailbox. The game is coming in fall of 2009 to 360 and PS3.]
Looks like at least one orphaned game will be finding release soon, as Joystiq is reporting that Tim Schafer’s music-based action game Brutal Legend, which may or may not have compatibility with Guitar Hero guitars, will finally see release by Electronic Arts.
We don’t know exactly but there are really strong indications that EA will come to Brutal Legend’s rescue. Most notably, www.brutallegend.com points to a non-existent EA domain, as noted by fan-site Brutal!. And if you tweak the address and plug in brutallegend.ea.com, you’ll spot [a Brutal Legend splash page]. Seriously, try it for yourself, it’ll do your spirit good after all the waiting.
It wouldn’t be the first time DoubleFine – Schafer’s development house – had a migrating game. Psychonauts was let go by LucasArts and adopted by Majesco. Unfortunately, without the huge backing publisher, Psychonauts suffered bad sales, despite critical raves. If EA publishes Brutal Legend, let’s hope EA gives it the full press saturation it deserves.
