[UPDATE: Motor City Online will be in North America, too, as Need for Speed World Online.]
In a press release, Electronic Arts announced it’ll be re-releasing the racing MMO Need For Speed: Motor City Online. The catch – it’ll only be in China.
Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) is preparing to launch its advanced casual game “NBA STREET Online” through the game’s China region operator, T2CN, in the first half of 2009, reports 17173.com quoting EA China Vice General Manager Zhong Xingxing. Electronic Arts plans to release MMORPG “Warhammer Online,” massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game “BattleForge” and car racing game “Need For Speed: Motor City Online” in China in the future, said Zhong.
Why just China, EA? Some of us loved Motor City Online here in the States. Give it another shot.

Wait wait…. what the f— is “Need for Speed: Motor City Online”? It was never called Need for Speed, two different things. Are we talking of the right MCO?
January 21st, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Actually, Need for Speed: Motor City Online is the original full title. I should know – I reviewed it for GamePen and had the press kit.

Hello all, God I miss this game. MCO was the only online game I played. I miss some of the old friends I made there, does anyone know if there is a group/club for die-hard-mco explayers I can join?

This is great! Whenever it get released some one can make a patch for the old MCO CD and have it link to the new servers.
Until then, use Zmodeler to convert the old levels and cars to NFS…

Mco was the best racing game ever made .. OK may be old, now physics may be out of date and graphics not as shiny as now but was a blast to play and most games out there just get boring after a few minutes.
just been playing GRID to try it out had a feeling of playing test drive unlimited ( maybe the graphics ) but i felt that there was big holes in those two was bored very fast.
so now MCO is making a return in china and then in North america.. to be honest it is clear it won’t be the same game and with EA they really have a talent to mess up so i don’t expect much

What I don’t get is that so many of us loved this game. Yet they simply turned it off like a light switch. Why not bring it back but put it more on the shoulders of the players, allow for public / private server groups…

Personally I absolutely loved MCO. Greatest game I ever played, and very addicting. Id pay more too. I bought Madden 09 and Madden 10 and alot of EA games, but if this is the kind of crap we gotta deal with, I swear Ill never mess with anything that EA makes a profit of off again. Love sports games, but can do without!!!!!! Personally wtf is this new CRAP they are bringing. I want MCO back. It wouldnt even have to have new graphics or all that fancy crap. It was perfect the way it was to me. It just goes to show that EA cares nothing at all about what its fans/gamers think. NOTHING! Only what they wanna do. They took MCO off when a blue million played and loved it. SCREW EA! I play online sports through my PS3 and I have a ton of friends that do too, and I personally WILL NOT buy another EA title as of this day until MCO comes back, THE RIGHT WAY. NOT NO BS ASIAN CRAP! This is the US for christ sakes There are more important things to do than play games, and I can find other games to play if needed.

MCO bring back Street Rod 1 and Street Rod 2 game spirit.
I miss that a lot, a game full of criativity, it was made with heart, and car lovers. This news car games, specially NFS, are very boring and nothing to do with art. MCO is a masterpiece.
Customizing the engine on MCO and than test it on Gas Town or Westbrook was fantastic, and than dicuss about setups on the clubs forum, god!! I miss that! I miss the vintages and the classic cars. After MCO and NFS Porsche 2000, EA lost hand of doing good car games. I played Shift on PS3 it’s seem to be a nice game, after years doing crap, this game looks fine to me, but, nothing to do with MCO, I prefer criativity of MCO with a lot of lags and fair graphics than NFS SHIFT …

MCO was the best game to ever hit the PC! No game out there can beat it, EA needs to bring it back. Honestly I along with others would want the Original MCO back not no new and improved game with Future cars we love the old school muscle!! EA BRING BACK THE OLD MCO!!!!
The game can still be purchased, they just need to reopen the survers not hard at all

I bought MCO and was disgusted when discovered it was online play only. A year later(while going through a really bad divorce/moving) I got internet and dug the disc back out. Wow! I can look back and honestly say that it saved my sanity. I could come home in terrible mood but start MCO and 10 min later… I was smilin. Got so hooked I’d be at work thinking of tranny/R&P combos to try, I’d set alarm clock to wake me up in middle of night so I could bid on auction items, I took off work the day they shut the servers down. And did all the petioning, begging, offering Xtra $$$ subscription, asked for private servers only, etc… and EA still just pulled the plug and emailed us WoW invation or somthing. I banned EA from my games but recently gave in on the PS3 SHIFT… my mistake! Their latest racing game is so fulla bugs its unreal. Worst being that I made it to level 50 intending on competing online from there but the shuts down at level 50, you have to erase and start over. So did and made it to level 24 and it glitched the save…leaving me again with starting from scratch. But aint… I will patiently wait on GT5. EA has proven to me in their very latest racing game that they aint a bit different than they were the day they cancelled all our subscriptions. If this MotorWorldOnline works out, great.. but another EA MCO would only be for folks that never played the 1st one

I had this game since it 1st cae out played it every chance I had, fell inlove with buying all the classic’s and making them monsters. The engine’s rebuilding was the absolute best ever rebuilding a motor from top to bottom was awsome even for me at that time I had no idea what I was doing yet I learned fast wrong parts here and there caused severe problems. I miss winning tons of money just to buy another car I always wanted in real life making it a beast on a track trying to set records then selling it to see if anyone else could beat my record with the same set up I made, nothing will ever come close to this game. EA could care less what all of us customers want to be honest, which is actually sad because I remember 2 months before they shut down the servers they sent me an email asking how I felt about the game itself I gave it 200% postive feedback I loved it, just to find out they never cared… Figures EA blows look at all these other racing games they have made nothing even close to MCO period…

mco was a game a head of its time when we didnt have high speed internet and games like wow and other games we have to pay for but it was worth it and i loved it me and my grandpa would stay up dang near all night every weekend playing it EA definitly needs to bring it back they would see that the reason it faled is becuse it was ahed of its time
January 23rd, 2010 at 11:59 pm
I was so addicted to this game its not even funny … I would be all over this in a heartbeat.
January 29th, 2010 at 4:43 pm
I was about 13 years old when me and my dad started playing MCO. I loved it and so did my dad i remimber sitting in the chir next to him and him explaining how to build a good motor. How to make a good drag strip car. i think this game really helped me and my dad get closer we were both kinda distint from each other but this game helped us. I had fell asleep the night the pulled the plug but my dad never left the game that night till it went off. We would love to see the original MCO back going. EA BRING MCO BACK TO ALL WHO LOVED IT AS WE DID ITS THE RITE THING TO DO!
February 3rd, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Such a misleading article. NFS Shift is simply NOT MCO. This should be taken down or corrected.
February 8th, 2010 at 3:15 pm
it is not NFS Shift…its NFS World Online but its not MCO thats for sure…MCO was mostly clasic cars as we all know NFS has very little if any clasics…nor do I think it will have the depth of building as MCO…I hope I am wrong on the clasic and the building part if I am and they do add these fetures I will be all over this game like a fat kid on a cup cake…wait I was the fat kid on a cup cake…lol anyways I hope I am wrong on both of thoughs things…
February 19th, 2010 at 1:49 am
we have the client code, now all we need is the server codes! doubt they will ever release that since it means boku bucks to them!

February 22nd, 2010 at 6:45 pm
I MISS MCO..Still have my disc..Played all the way up till they shut it down.If I remember right they offered 2 different games to choose from sims online was one I think for free if you canceled MCO subscription before shut down..I was like…Right….No way..I miss my choptop Roadrunner =[. I have not bought one single EA game since. But would have a change of heart if they would bring it back.
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:55 pm
