I remember following UXO in 2004, and was greatly anticipating its release. I also remember the feeling of being let down and pissed off at EA for canceling something that would have been amazing. It wasn't until the later part of 2004 that I had ever heard of WoW and was hardly impressed with it.

Every year or so I tend to check up on UXO in hopes that it would be picked back up again. Even if it went F2P I think out of nostalgia I would play the game because it reminds me of simpler and happier times.

Miss you UXO

they killed UO if they release a 3d mmo with there leveling system and there indepth game play WoW wouldnt be reigning supreme but because of there scared childness this game will NEVER pick up even if it was released with great enthusiasm because now too many people have never even heard of ultima let alone played it

That motto by EA - "Challenge Everything" - is every bit as ironic as Enron's motto back in 2001: "Ask Why".

I can understand EAs worries about tarnishing the franchise, but really?! It's been over 10 years since we've seen an Ultima, best to use a franchise before its emotional capital is spent. There are one or two generations of gamers now who've never heard of the franchise!

By sitting on it for so long, they've gone a long way towards killing it. There is always going to be a glut of MMOs, and the longer you wait to release your WoW killer the harder it is going to be. WoW players now have 1000s of dollars and hours invested in WoW and Blizzard, if EA had released their Ultima then there might have been a chance to split the MMO audience and prevented WoW from being the juggernaut it now is. Too late now.
