Hellgate: London Will Remain Free to Play

Those of you concerned about Hellgate: London’s multiplayer fate, you may rejoice, as Joystiq is reporting that it’ll remain free to play.

Namco-Bandai planned to pull the plug on the servers January 31, but HanbitSoft asserts the game will push forward. Forward and upward, allegedly, as the Korean publisher plans to update the game and strengthen community features.

The first patch HanbitSoft plans to release “soon” will combine the game’s two modes, along with balancing game and class issues. Could the title that helped bring down Flagship Studios find an audience in the nurturing arms of the Korean developer?

It’ll make that upcoming expansion much more attractive (and viable). For those of you still playing Hellgate, how happy are you? Let us know.

In the United States I imagine that most users have already moved on to other games or MMOs.

Those people were the small few that stayed on after seeing the terrible art and gameplay.

I guess it goes to show that some people will like anything, as well as keep hoping it’ll get better, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Jon? It allows people to play multiplayer Hellgate. Plus, you missed the key part of the story:

The first patch HanbitSoft plans to release “soon” will combine the game’s two modes, along with balancing game and class issues.

Sounds like they’re going to improve the title.

  3. Jonathon Howard Says:

What does that mean combine the two modes? The game was the same single player or MMO one you could just do with friends.

The patch they’re talking about has been promised for awhile, and with the difficulties involved with publishing rights in different parts of the world, there is still a lot of ifs involved to get hopeful anything will come of this announcement.

  4. Jonah Falcon Says:

When the servers were supposed to go down, it meant you couldn’t do any sort of multiplayer. That won’t happen now.
