No, Sony hasn’t come out and stated that they’ll be providing downloadable versions for all their games, but they’ve done it in the past with SOCOM and Warhawk. A consultant for Futuresource Consulting, Mai Hoang, is floating the idea that Sony will be doing this in the future as they try to grab a larger piece of the digital download pie – and stick it to brick and mortar retailers who take a chunk of the cash as well. Hoang thinks Sony will soon be offering their games on-line for $40 opposed to the $60 dollars at retail. As evidence of this, Hoang points out the Sony is already doing this for first party releases on the PSP in Japan.
Will it happen? I don’t know it’d definitely put a little more green in Sony’s pockets this year, something the they definitely need.
