Sony to Premiere New PSP At E3?

It seems like the trickle of rumors regarding a new PSP form factor are turning into a steady flow. 1Up has a new source pointing to a UMD-less PSP and this time it has a name: the PSP Go! It’s got an exclamation point on it so this rumor is even more exciting than the last rumor!

Like the iPhone, the PSP Go! will supposedly come in 8GB and 16GB versions and have over 100 PSP games available for download, presumably through the PlayStation Store. Like the previous rumor, a sliding screen is also mentioned, although the second analog stick is now being declared a no-go, sure to cause consternation in fanboy circles.

According to the source, Sony will announce the PSP Go! at E3 in June and the new system will go on sale in Japan in September followed by a US release shortly thereafter, just in time for Christmas.

The bit where the rumor starts to break down is when you see that one of the announced games is the long forgotten Gran Turismo Mobile. For those who don’t recall, that’s the title that was used for the original PSP mock ups way back in 2004. It never has actually materialized becoming the PSP version of Duke Nukem Forever.

I, myself, would love to see a new PSP, although it would be strange to give yourself extra room for sticks and buttons via a sliding screen, and leave out the 2nd analog stick. I’m not exactly keen on the idea of no UMD drive however. I own a significant number of existing PSP games, and would like to be able to use them on any new PSP.
